YEONGAM CIRCUIT SHORT GUIDE

Designed by Hermann Tilke, ( yes, you're right he's German ) the Yeongam track comprises permanentand temporary sections. The permanent section will be used throughout the year for motorcycle, junior and corporate racing events. The temporary street circuit, which adds up to about half a lap of the F1 circuit, provides a glamorous backdrop as it winds around the town’s skyscrapers, harbour and attractive waterways. The track will have seating for 130,000 spectators, making it the biggest sports stadium in Korea. One of the toughest challenges for the circuit organizers, Korea Auto Valley Operation (KOVA), will be to find enough accommodation for everyone. They are looking to dock cruise ships nearby, which will act as floating hotels for high rollers. Details on this are still to be confirmed. The plan is, in the coming years, to develop the local area into a high-tech business park and leisure destination. Having hosted both the 1988 Olympics and the 2002 World Cup (with Japan), South Korea is no stranger to the challenges of staging major international sporting events. As we get closer to October, more news and information regarding the facilities and the area around the track will become available.
